It's Mother's Day! I'm hoping that you've all been as fortunate as I in being raised by [at least] one kick ass woman. It's incredible to think that women have literally birthed all of the civilizations of the world. You know that saying – "Behind every great man, there's a great woman"- it's your mother.
Holidays put a little extra purpose in the letter-writing enthusiast's mail game. I put these guys together with my mommy in mind- and also made one for the lovely lady who reared my fuzzy-headed male companion.
If you have a little extra time, it's really fun to embellish the design of your envelopes. These ones are pretty simple with a scatter of gold and white dots, and shadow lines of gold ink. I seriously wish you could see how these things shine. IT'S NUTS! There's a video on my instagram of the light effect. (I hope that link works)
The materials I used for these are:
- Euro flap Coral envelopes
- Daler Rowney FW series acrylic black ink (it's a great multi-purpose ink- already has a great consistency so no need to mess with gum arabic or other vehicles)
- FINE•TEC Gold palette (I'm SO IN LOVE with this moon gold- I typically mix my own metallic inks, but this palette is perfect for smaller jobs. I found that a single pan will yield enough liquid ink for less than 100 envelopes.)
- No.56 Speedball Nib (admittedly not my favorite, but available at the local art store and it did break in nicely. I'm finding that you really need to order nibs online. John Neal Booksellers is great!)
These were written free hand, but for a professional job I'm a fan of guidelines. I'll blog about my guideline tricks in a later blog.
Thanks for reading guys. I'm hoping to slowly gain more readers, so if you know anyone who might be interested in some behind-the-scenes writing tips, suggest my blog. I just recently started an Instagram for Event Script (and I've forgotten how daunting following and gaining followers is) so if you're feeling friendly, pop on over. If it wasn't obvious by my love of analog arts, I'm new to this web game and am trying to figure out how to A.) add instagram icon link without embedding a whole feed, and B.) How to make this sharable to Facebook. If you know...help a sister out, or in today's case— a daughter.
Left to right: Jim Resch, Me, Little Sean-Patrick, My Mommy, some weirdo (just kidding it's Conor)
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL YOU REAL MVPS.
