My name is Brittany and I'm a graphic designer and production manager at Pike Street Press. Working with wedding clients in a nurturing business gave me the opportunity to offer a service that I really enjoy, so I went ahead and made it legit.
Hello and Welcome! Event Script is officially a legitimate business- with a license to be taxed and all. I'm excited to be introducing my online base of operations. There are additions to be made and bugs to work out, but this is a big step for me to make all of the investments to make my little business stand. With that being said, I hope to offer just a a little bit of inspiration to anyone looking to do something new:
I've come to realize recently, that you are never going to have all of the information you need to start any particular thing. If you spend all of your time planning and gathering, and waiting until you know every detail of what's ahead before you make any of those first steps, you'll never reach your goals. In the tradition of Nike, JUST DO IT! It's refreshing to dive into unfamiliar places and force yourself to learn. For me, particularly developing a small brand, it's been interesting to have to consider all of the logistics behind being recognized, both by clients and by the tax man. I'm still in the early stages of development and launch, but am happy to have made something that I can build and work on.
So often, particularly in early life, we have an expectation of reaching some finite goals. You know, people ask you: "what do you want to be when you grow up?", "where will you go?", "how many kids will you have"..., and we build these perimeters of the end product of all of our efforts. When we're in the midst of growth and gritty work, sometimes it gets overwhelming, goals seem far away, there's doubts or what have you, but I want to remind everyone that this is when it all happens! These are the hearty moments of pride and accomplishment. Being present to recognize your attributes will make the big landmark moments all the more fulfilling.
Obviously there's still things I need to do. In the next couple of weeks I will be adding a projects gallery and eventually a little store. I'll be building a new social media base. And I'm MOST EXCITED for all of my branded marketing materials to come in (business cards, mailers, stationery... duh, the best part of a calligrapher's day). It'll be a blog post all its own. But I'm happy to start here.
I hope for this blog to be a source of inspiration to all the behind-the-scenes creatives. I'll be updating weekly on Sundays with things I'm learning, technical tips+tricks, and some file sharing give aways for my fellow design friends.
Plant seeds my friends! One day you'll have a big tree to build a tree house in.
